Effects of titanium nitride coatings on surface and corrosion characteristics of Ni-Ti alloy.
The structure of a titanium nitride film coated by arc ion plating on a Ni-50Ti shape memory alloy was characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The corrosion behavior of the titanium nitride-coated Ni-50Ti alloy was examined in 0.9% NaCl solution by potentiodynamic polarization measurements and a polarization resistance method. XPS spectra showed that the titanium nitride film c...
متن کاملSurface coatings of titanium and zirconia
Titanium and zirconia are the biomaterials used in medicine and dentistry for restorations and implants. However, the adhesion of zirconia to other materials is weak. The implant fixation of titanium and zirconia is slow. This is due to the chemical and bio-inertness. The performance can be improved by coating with other materials. This mini review will discuss the coating methods with zirconia...

متن کاملMeasuring the surface roughness of sputtered coatings by microgravimetry.
A novel application of quartz crystal microgravimetry is described to enable determination of the roughness of native and sputtered oxide coatings. The technique is applicable to coatings that may be too rough for accurate atomic force microscopic imaging where measurements may be limited by the dimensions of the probe tip.
متن کاملTitanium Aluminium Nitride and Titanium Boride Multilayer Coatings Designed to Combat Tool Wear
The lifetimes and the premature wear of machining tools impact on manufacturing efficiencies and productivities. A significant proportion of machining tool damage can be attributed to component wear. Here, titanium aluminium nitride (TiAlN) multi-layered with titanium diboride (TiB2) prepared by PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) sputtering onto H-13 substrates are studied as potential wear-resis...
